So I'm not usually one to rant, but I'm just leaving the gym and I'm quite annoyed.
I live kind of far from my gym (it is close to the school I used to work at which is why I joined, but now that I'm no longer working there it is out of my way). I make an effort to go to spin classes on the weekends, and the Saturday morning class fills up so you need to get there early.
Today, I arrived a half hour early to reserve my bike, then went and did some other stuff in the weights area. I went back in the room about 10 minutes before class to start warming up, and a girl came in and claimed the bike next to me. She started adjusting and asked if I could help her move the handlebars back, but they wouldn't go, so I offered to switch bikes with her since they were in a place that worked for me. She eagerly said yes and so we switched. Then I realized that the seat on the bike I just traded for was stuck back. I said something to hear about it and she said, "oh yeah, I couldn't get that to move either." Then she hopped onto the bike I had just given up
This is the point in the story where I should have asked her to trade back. But there was an open bike right behind my original bike, so I moved back there, and the story gets more complex, since a guy swooped in on the bike with the seat pushed back as soon as I took my towel off the handlebars, and now the class was completely full.
So, when I moved to the bike in the back row, I discovered that the seat would not move up - it kept falling back down. I called the instructor over and asked if she had a way to tighten it, and was told that it had been "broken for weeks." But she told me that I could ride with the seat in the down position if I wanted to. I'm 5'8 - so no, that would actually be a bad idea, and the fact that an instructor suggested that I take the class with bad form is crazy. But that's another story entirely. She was a sub for the regular teacher, but still, no good.
Anyway.
So I (loudly) said to the teacher that since I had given up a working bike in a switch to a bike I didn't know was broken, I guess I would leave. This was all DIRECTLY BEHIND the girl I had traded with, but did she even turn around?? No. She just kept pedaling away. I know she could hear me, I was literally a foot from her.
Now, I realize I could have asked for the bike back, but I wanted to put it on her to do the right thing. Plus, the situation was now that one person would have to leave, since I was no longer on HER original bike, so we couldn't just undo the trade.
I had done something nice in trading and got screwed over in the process, and if I were in her position, I would have offered it back to me, since I had gotten there before her, but she just avoided eye contact.
I did take my frustration out on the elliptical, but still it was annoying and disappointing.
Spin class is cutthroat, y'all. And karma will come back and bite you - or maybe pull your groin. Just saying.

How annoying! I would have asked her move lol.
Ah the spin class bike-fight drama... That was always fun... I wish gyms would just do REGULAR MAINTENANCE on the bikes and avoid that whole mess!
I would have been so annoyed! If I had been the other girl I deff would've traded back or I would have been embarrassed !
I wouldn't have asked for it back since I am noncontroversial but the girl should have given up her spot. Karmas gonna get that girl!
That girl should have given you the bike back. I hope she is super sore ALL day tomorrow to make up for being mean to you! Ha! Oh and you should talk to management about the broken bike. That should be removed so that 1 less person signs up for the class. Nobody wants a broken bike.
I'm not confrontational either, but I definitely say very mean witty things in my head after the incident that I wished I could have said during the problem.
How annoying! You are right, karma will bite her in the butt one day.
RUDE! The seating arrangements/unofficial assigned seats? HALF the reason I get so intimidated to go to spin classes! I hope that the girl is extra sore tomorrow ;)
How annoying! I was getting angry at that girl just reading this post! It is so disappointing that people can really be so rude- especially to someone who had tried to help them.
How annoying! There are few things worse than riding on a crappy bike! And I can't believe the instructor acted like that!
